✈️ AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT LICENCE · ATPL(A)

ATPL training minimums,
integrated and modular.

The integrated ATP(A) course needs at least 195 hours of flying training, with 115 hours of instrument time and multi-crew cooperation. The modular route gets there through a CPL, a multi-engine instrument rating and MCC. PilotMetrics tracks every minimum along the way.

THE MINIMUMS

ATPL(A) training requirements

The UK CAA and EASA share the same Part-FCL minimums. These are the training minimums PilotMetrics checks your logbook against.

Training minimums only, not legal advice. The course leads to a "frozen" ATPL: the full ATPL needs 1,500 hours of flight time and other experience under FCL.510.A. You also need the ATPL theory exams, medical and skill tests. Check the current regulation for your licence.

WHAT IT MEANS

ATPL logbook terms, explained

Integrated vs modular
An integrated course takes you from no experience to a frozen ATPL in one continuous programme at one school. The modular route builds the same qualifications step by step: PPL, hour building, CPL, instrument rating, multi-engine and MCC.
SPIC
Student pilot in command: you fly as PIC with an instructor on board who only observes. On the integrated course up to 55 of the 70 PIC hours can be SPIC, including up to 20 hours of instrument time as SPIC.
Simulator (FSTD) credit
On the integrated course up to 55 hours of the flying training can be in a simulator, and up to 40 hours of the instrument flight instruction.
MCC
Multi-crew cooperation: training to operate as part of a two-pilot crew, normally in a simulator.
Frozen ATPL
A CPL with a multi-engine instrument rating and the ATPL theory passed. It "unfreezes" into a full ATPL once you have the experience the licence needs.

ATPL QUESTIONS

ATPL FAQ

How many hours is an integrated ATPL course? ▼
Under UK CAA and EASA Part-FCL (Appendix 3 A), at least 195 hours of flying training, including 95 hours dual, 70 hours as PIC (up to 55 as SPIC), 50 hours of cross-country as PIC and 115 hours of instrument time. Up to 55 of the 195 hours can be in a simulator.
How many hours do you need for a full ATPL? ▼
The integrated or modular course gives you a "frozen" ATPL. To unfreeze it into a full ATPL(A), FCL.510.A requires at least 1,500 hours of flight time in aeroplanes, along with minimum PIC, cross-country, instrument and night time.
Integrated or modular ATPL? ▼
Integrated is one full-time course at one school; modular lets you train in stages, often around work, starting with a PPL. PilotMetrics tracks both: pick the course you're on in Settings and it checks the right minimums.
Does PilotMetrics track ATPL theory exams? ▼
Yes, with Pro. Add each exam on the Progress page's Ground School card or your Timeline to see your subjects passed, first-attempt passes, pass rate and average score.
